Helen Marie Thompson

BORN: July 21, 1922

Helen Marie (Coffman) Thompson was born on July 21, 1922, on a farm north of Jewell, the daughter of Larry and Grace (Denekas) Coffman. She attended school in the Jewell and Gilbert area. Helen married Marshall Thompson on June 1, 1940, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church parsonage.

Marshall and Helen farmed in the rural Story City area most of their married life. Helen did housecleaning for others and worked for 34 years as a housekeeper at Bethany Manor. She enjoyed her work very much, she always said, she wasn’t a nurse but felt she was helping people and she was satisfied just being their good friend.

After their retirement, Helen and Marshall enjoyed traveling, but best of all was time spent with family and friends. Helen also enjoyed photo albums and doing scrapbooks. She was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, where she served on the altar guild and the care group.
