John Sauke

BORN: March 25, 1926

DIED: June 2, 2011

LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

John Louis Sauke, 85, of Story City, formerly of Ames, passed away Thursday, June 2, at Bethany Manor in Story City. A visitation will be held Sunday, June 5, from 4-6 p.m. at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be Monday, June 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be Tuesday June 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

John was born March 25, 1926 in Walters, MN, the son of George and Bernice (Peterson) Sauke. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Kiester High School, and attended Wartburg College. John served his country in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. On September 19, 1948 he married Pearl Behl of Grafton, IA.
John worked as an automotive machinist in Albert Lea, MN. and in Ames, and in 1969 he started to work as an ERD machinist for Iowa State University and worked until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where he was active in the Bethesda Choir and the Bethesda Community Food Pantry for many years. He had a love for music and was a member of the Barbershop Chorus and Heartland Song Birds. He also enjoyed woodworking, golfing and bowling. John was a loving husband and father who loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife: two daughters, Valerie (Dean) Cadwell of Urbandale, and Jonelle (Kelly) Strong of Ames; one son, Neil Sauke of Austin, TX. ; four grandsons, Ben (Meredith) Cadwell, of Grimes, Jacob (Kayla) Cadwell of Waukesha WI., Andrew Bishop and Logan Strong of Ames; two great grandsons, Abraham Cadwell and Silas Cadwell; one sister, Gloria Sauke of Wells, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Sauke and sister, Marva Lundberg

Memorials may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Church Food Pantry or Bethany Manor Chaplaincy Funds.
