Paul Eugene Whipple was born on July 25, 1936 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Wayne and Addie (Rill) Whipple. He graduated from Agency High School in 1954. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Matson of Randall, Iowa on June 9, 1956 at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall.
After moving his family from Madrid to Story City, he owned and operated Kak-L-Berry Farm on the edge of town where he raised chickens and taught his family the timeless lessons that they carry today. After moving into town, he worked at the high school for 8 years. While keeping the building clean and orderly, it was the lasting relationships with students and staff that he really maintained.
Paul enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors, gaining him the unofficial title, “Ranger”. While he enjoyed hunting, his true passion was fishing. Whether it was on the dock, shore, boat, or casual conversation, fishing always put a smile on his face. When not on the lake, Paul loved being with his family. From packing the house on holidays, to coffee after church on Sundays, he took no opportunity for granted. A humble and faithful man, he appreciated and respected all.
