Mary Fleig

DIED: August 23, 2011

LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Mary Fleig, 96, of Ames, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in St Paul. Visitation will be from 5 – 6:30 p.m. followed by a Vigil Service on Wednesday, August 31, at the Adams Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 1 at St Cecilia Catholic Church.

Mary was born March 20, 1915 in Des Moines, Iowa to Ralph and Emily Blount. She was the only daughter and sister to six younger brothers. She attended St. Joseph's Academy and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She attended the AIB College of Business. During WWII she worked as the secretary to the Colonel at the US Army Air Force Base in Lincoln Nebraska where she met her future husband Richard. They married after the war on December 13, 1945 and settled in Ames. She worked in several departments at Iowa State University, retiring from the Graduate Dean's office.

Her joy in life was being a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She and Dick were members of the Meadow Glen Road neighborhood for 55 years. Those neighbors were very dear to her.

She is survived by one son, John and wife Connie of Ames; two daughters, Jean Carroll and husband Tom, of Sioux city, and Barb Fleig of St Paul; grandchildren, Mary Greeley (Chad), Tommy Carroll (Amie), Anne Carroll, and Haley Kauffman; great- grandchildren, Kayden and Joseph Greeley, Colbey and Tommy Carroll and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard; and brothers, Roy, Don, Ken, Dick, Bill and Robert.
