Jerene Olive Hansen
BORN: August 31, 1911
DIED: September 2, 2011
LOCATION: Roland, Iowa
Jerene Olive Hansen was born August 31, 1911 to Ole T. and Hannah (Olson) Hovde on an acreage southwest of Roland. She graduated from Roland Consolidated School in 1929. Jerene married Ingvald Hansen on May 27, 1933 and they farmed in Milford Township for many years. Jerene worked several jobs as a receptionist including for Dr. Ringdahl's and later Dr. Larson. She was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church and a charter and lifetime member of the Sons of Norway. Jerene was fluent in speaking Norwegian. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Jerene passed away Friday, September 2, 2011 at Bethany Manor in Story City 100 years of age.
Jerene is survived by two sons, Rodney (Sue) Hansen of Ames and Larry (Rhonda) Hansen of Roland; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ingvald in 1972; her daughters Alice Roberts and Janet Collins; her sisters Mabel Hiller, Della Sansgaard, Mildred Hickle and Ruth Ellingson; and her brothers Clarence Hovde, Joseph Hovde and Gerald Hovde.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Bethany Life Communities.
