Doris Riggs

BORN: June 26, 1922

DIED: March 6, 2012

LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Doris (Griffith) Riggs entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior on March 6, 2012 while a resident of Bethany Manor, Story City, IA. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 9 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 24th and Hoover, Ames. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10 also at Calvary United Methodist Church.

Doris was born in Cambridge, IA June 26, 1922 to Floyd and Lorena (White) Griffith. Her first bed was her father's shoebox. Doris was a 1941 graduate of Ames High School. She married Donald A. Riggs on October 12, 1941. Two daughters, Dora Jane and Peggy Ann, were born to Doris and Don: This past year Doris and Don celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Doris worked at the Atomic Energy Commission and as a bookkeeper for O'Neil Dairy and Home Furniture of Ames.

Doris was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She served the United Methodist Women as a local and district officer. She was elected UMW conference (state) treasurer and served in that capacity for 3 years at which time she elected to serve a 4 year term as the conference (state) president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Board of Pensions of the United Methodist Church and served twice as a lay delegate to the annual conference.

Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Janie; parents; sisters, Evelyn Cook and Helen Davis; and brother, Bob Griffith.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; daughter, Peggy; twin sister, Dora Livingston; brother-in-law, Carl (Connie) Riggs, sister-in-law, Darlene Riggs; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Calvary United Methodist Church or the Ames Emergency Residence Project.
