From Adams & Soderstrum Funeral Home obituary, Story County, Iowa:

Marguerite Thelma Hetland

BORN: January 14, 1928

DIED: April 18, 2012

LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

Marguerite Thelma Hetland was born January 14, 1928 to Rasmus and Agnes (Osmundson) Auestad in Radcliffe, Iowa. Marguerite grew up on a farm near Radcliffe and the family moved to Randall in 1940. Marguerite attended school in Randall, which is were she met William Hetland. Marguerite and Bill were married on June 20, 1948. She and Bill lived on the farm in the 'little house' until in 1959, when Bill's parents moved to Story City to retire. Bill and Marguerite moved their family to the 'big house' and farmed the place for many years. In 1989 they decided to move to the big town of Story City.

Marguerite was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. She loved to make kringla for her family and any company that would visit. Thanksgiving was always lutefisk, for those that wanted it. There was always food in the house and always time for coffee. There weren't too many people that Marguerite didn't know in the Story City and surrounding area.

Marguerite worked a few months at Donnelly's, and then at Leonard & Hazel Auestad's Grocery and Locker in Garden City. She also worked a couple years at the canning factory in Roland, and then as a cook for the Randall and South Hamilton schools.

Marguerite passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Bethany Manor in Story City at 84 years of age.

Marguerite is survived by two sons, Craig (Sue) Hetland of Pella and Randy (Kris) Hetland of Story City; a daughter, Vicki Hetland of Story City; six grandchildren: Amy (Eric) Recker, Derek (Liz) Hetland, Kevin (Amanda) Hetland, Dawn Roucoulet, Kacie (Cheyne) Hesse and Andrew (Meghan) Hetland; nine great-grandchildren: Blake, Jace, Madison, Macy, Myla, Lukas, Norah, Jillian and Oliver; a brother, Roger (Charlotte) Auestad of Story City; and a sister, Julie (Jack) Roney of Holiday Island, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill, on October 12, 2010; her brother Virgil Auestad; and her sister Janet Auestad.
