M. L. Runneals and wife were called to Preston, Iowa, by the sad information that a neice of Mrs. R., her husband and three children had been killed in the cyclone which passed over that section last week. It was a sad journey for them and they will receive the sympathy of all in this hour of trial.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The Preston tornado occurred on May 18, 1898 at 4:45 p. m. killing 18 and injuring 100. Most notable among the deaths, was the entire Charles Florey family. Charles Florey married Nettie Williamson on 21 August 1894 at Maquoketa, Jackson County, Iowa. Nettie was the daughter of Henry Bush and Eliza (Williamson) Bush.

"M. L. Runneals" was Martin L. Runneals who married Lydia Catherine Williamson on 9 September 1873 in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa. Lydia Catherine (Williamson) Runneals and Eliza (Williamson) Bush were the daughters of William and Elizabeth Williamson. The Williamson family is recorded in the 1860 Deep Creek, Clinton County, Iowa census. All four were born in England.
