From Story County Watchman November 2, 1904

Mrs. Winter, wife of Mr. Elmer Winter, formerly of Ames, having died and left one son, we learn that the son will make his home with Mrs. Winter of this city (mother of Mrs. E. Winter.)

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Frederick Allen Winter was the son the Elmer Ellsworth Winter and the deceased. Upon the death of his mother, Fred came to live with his paternal grandmother, Mary Anna (Reagan) Winter, widow of Jacob Winter. Fred apparently lived with her until his father remarried on 29 June 1897 to Anna Sneddon in Boone, Boone County, Iowa. In the 1900 census, Fred is living with his father, step mother, and two step brothers in Franklin Township, Story County, Iowa.
