Death of Jonas Bechtel.
Jonas C. Bechtel died in Mercy hospital in Des Moines last Tuesday morning and the remains were brought to this city Tuesday evening. Mr. Bechtel was in Des Moines for about two weeks prior to his death preparing for and undergoing an operation. For several days very favorable reports were received but Monday a telegram announced his alarming condition and Mrs. Bechtel left at once for Des Moines, arriving after the husband had become unconscious. Mr. Bechtel was well and favorably known here and for years has lived on his farm southwest of the city. In 1869 he came to this city and engaged in business which he continued until 1885 when he moved to the farm which was his home at the time of his death.
Mr. Bechtel was born in Knox county, Ohio, January 12, 1835, died December 5, 1905, aged 70 years, 10 months and 23 days. He was married at his boyhood home in 1856 to Miss Matilda Stecher, who survives him.
Deceased leaves besides the wife three grown children, Mrs. Minnie Cessna of this city, George Bechtel of Davenport and Edward Bechtel who lives at the parental home.
The funeral services were held at the home at 11 o'clock yesterday morning Rev. Simon of Memorial Lutheran church officiating, the remains being laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.
