From Story County Watchman December 8, 1905

Pioneer Iowan Dead.

A Marshalltown landmark of mor than usual prominence was obliterated Thursday, Nov. 30, in the death of Hon. Henry Anson. Mr. Anson was appropriately termed the founder or "father of Marshalltown." He laid out the town in 1853, owned the ground upon which it was built and retained quite a portion of it until his death. In the early days he moved grass with a scythe on what is now Main street, built the first saw mill operated in the county and was indentified with everything that tended toward the upbuilding of the city. Mayor Ingledue had ordered that the city be decked in mourning, the flags displayed at half mast and that all municipal and civic officers, secret societies, etc. be in readiness to formally attend the obequies. It is expected to be one of the most imposing and impressive funeral services of years.
