Story City Herald

On last Friday night occurred one of he most distressing fires our town has known. At about fiteen minutes till eleven the home of John Randall wa seen to be on fire. Dan Shearer, who was first to reach the burning building succeeded in getting the family aroused and the alarm given. They were asleep when he arrived, but hurried out of the building in time to escape with their liver only. Not withstanding the excitement and confusion the principal thought was uppermost,--the safety of the children. And then it was discovered that little Olive, the youngest child and darling of the family, could not be found, and the building in utter flames. The fire company had by this time began to play on the burning mass, which was eventually subdued. In the upper southwest bedroom, George Giley found the little one. Though cruelly marred by the flame, the doctors assued that she died without pain. Her death was caused by suffocation. The expression on her face showed that she had not suffered.
