From Story County Watchman April 12, 1904

DIED--At her residence in the city of Boone, Iowa, on Monday morning last after a brief illness Mrs. Mary Ambrose Elwell, wife of John K. Elwell of that city. Only a few days before she was in Nevada visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ambrose, returning the first of the week. Soon after returning home she was taken with la grippe and soon was seriously ill. Sunday Mrs. Ambrose went there being called to look after her daughter. Monday the disease turned into a species of heart failure and she lived only a short time, passing away peacefully to the great beyond. The funeral took place in the M. E. Church in Boone which room was crowded to the extreme many not being able to be admitted thereto. Rev. Holmes, presiding elder of this district took charge of the last work aided by Rev. Nye of Nevada. The members of the family in Nevada accompanied by several of her friends were present at these services. After the exercises the remins were tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery at that place to await the resurrection morn and last call. Mrs. Elwell was born at Polo, Ill., where she spent earlier years of her life coming to Colo, Story county, with her parents when they came to Iowa, where she lived until they moved to Nevada, where she resided until her marriage in Oct. 1895. She leaves her husband and one son to mourn her loss and look forward to a meeting in the realms beyond. She stood high in the work of the church to which she belonged and will be greatly missed by all with whom she had relations. Her many friends in Boone as well as at this point deeply grieve over the taking off and trust that the remembrance of the lady will be such that it will be a reminder to others to do good in order that others may have peace and look forward to a happy future.
