Myron Weston Olson
McCallsburg -- The last rites for Myron Weston Olson, who died in a farm accident Oct. 27, were held Oct 29 with a prayer service at the Brouhard funeral home at Zearing and at the high school auditorium in McCallsburg. The Rev. Donard Jafvert conducted the services. It was one of the largest funerals ever held in McCallsburg.
Casket bearers were Obed Olson, Maynard Olson, Reuben Olson, Maynard Christian, Jesse Jorstad, and Otis Jorstad.
Mrs. Herbert Eddy was organist and accompanied Mrs. Dale Fincham and Mrs. Harlan Tjelmeland who sang "In the Garden" and "Precious Savior, Take My Hand."
Mrs. Robert Lounsberry and Mrs. Walter Wesack were in charge of the flowers. Floral gifts and memorial offerings were made.
Myron Weston Olson, son of Joseph Morgan and Byrde Olson, was born near McCallsburg May 12, 1907 and died Oct. 27, 1955 at the age of 48.
He attended the McCallsburg school, graduating with the clas of 1926. He wsa united in marriage to Nettie Chelsvig Oct. 12, 1936. They had three children, Wanda, Wanita and Wayne.
Mr. Olson was an active member of the McCallsburg Presbyterian church, was a member of the board of trustees, and member of the Mens' Brotherhood of the church. He was active in community affairs.
He is survived by his wife, Nettie, and his children and his father, J.M. Olson. Also surviving are his sisters Vera (Mrs. Max Adams of Park Rapids, Minn.), Velda (Mrs. Pat Patakotis of Des Moines), Velma of McCallsburg, and his brothers Capt. Wendell Olson of Warner Robins, Ga., and Warren of Ottumwa.
In attendance from a distance were Mrs. Nellie Cherland and Mr. and Mrs. Tilden Cherland of Highmore, S.D.; Mrs. and Mrs. John Dodds and family of Austin, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Troutner and family of Waterville, Minn.; Mrs. and Mrs. M.H. Wierson and family, Taopi Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sandve, Mrs. Glen Stevens of LeRoy, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Jorstad, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Jorstad of Elkton, Minn.; Mrs. Dick Upchurch, Seattle, Wash.
Relatives were also present from Burt, Goodell, Belmond, Boone, Haverhill, Clemons, Marshalltown, Eagle Grove, and all the surrounding towns. Dinner following the service was served at the Dorcas Hall by the women of the Helping Hand Society.

Funeral services for Weston Olson, 48, McCallsburg farmer killed in a corn elevator accident Thursday morning, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the McCallsburg high school auditorium.
The Rev. Donald R. Jafvert of McCallsburg Presbyterian church will be in charge of services. Burial will be in McCallsburg cemetery. The body will be at Brouhard funeral home, Zearing, until time of services.

From the Ames Daily Tribune, Thursday, October 27, 1955:

McCallsburg Farmer Dies In Corn Elevator Accident
McCallsburg -- Weston Olson, 48, farmer near here, was killed this morning between 6:30 and 7:30 by an elevator tumbling-rod. He was working elevating a load of corn.
The tumbling-rod is the shaft which connects the elevator to the source of power.
Mr. Olson had gone out to work about 6:30 a.m. and was working alone at the time of the accident. He was found by his father, J. M. Olson, of McCallsburg who had come out to help his son.
Mr. Olson suffered a broken neck and one arm was severed.
He was trustee of McCallsburg Presbyterian church.
He is survived by his wife, Nettie, and two daughters, Wanda, a student at Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls, and Wanita, and a son, Wayne, at home; his father, two brothers Capt. Wendell Olson, Warner Robins, Ga., and Warren of Ottumwa; and three sisters, Mrs. Max Adams, Park Rapids, Minn., Mrs. Pat Patakotis, Des Moines; and Velma, McCallsburg.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
