Henry Hall was born in Pennsylvania. When he was three years old he moved with his parents to Wayne county, Indiana. Both of his parents died when he was five years old. He was married April 14, 1842, in Indiana, to Miss Diana McClay, who died in 1893. They same to Iowa in 1854 and settled in Jasper county, near Mitchellville. He assisted to organize the first Sunday school in Jasper county and was its first superintendent. He later moved to Polk county and in the fall of 1866 made his home at the farm at Cory Grove, where he lived till his death, except three years at Peoria, one year in Des Moines and over a year in Collins. He died at the Cory Grove farm at 10 p. m., Saturday, December 12th, aged 87 years and 8 months. The funeral was held at the Cory Grove chapel Monday. Rev. Elliot preached the sermon to a large congregation. Subsequntly the Odd Fellows took charge of the exercises. The interment was at the graveyard beside the chapel where Father Hall's remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife's grave.
