Mrs. Martha Lewis died Wednesday morning, March 25, at the home of daughter, Mrs. L. H. Proctor, in this city. Mrs. Lewis had been ill only about a week with pneumonia and her conditionwas not thought so serious.
Martha Reynolds was born May 11, 1831, at Ogdenburg, New York andlater in childhood moved to Rochelle, Ill., with her parents. In 1850 she was married to Mr. Nelson, who died in 1855, and in 1861 she married G. H. Lewis with whom she moved to Story county. Mr. Lewis died at his home in Grant township in 1881. She had eight children, four by each husband and all but one are now living to mourn her loss. Three sons are in California, Mrs. L. D. Applegate living near Nevada by her first husband and Mrs. L. H. Proctor, Mrs. W. H. Davis of Nevada and Mr. Meyer of Ill., by her second husband. She also leaves a sister Mrs. Leonard of Nevada. Mrs. Lewis was a kind and loving mother, a good christian, and admired by all who knew her. The funeral services were held this morning at the Methodist church at the 10 o'clock by Rev. Dudley.
