From Story County Watchman December 19, 1902

DIED:--About noon Thursday Freeman Elliott died at the residence of his son, Lou Elliott in this city at the age of 63 years. He was a native of Illinois where he grew to manhood going into the cavalry at the breaking out of th war of the rebellion, and serving with distinction to the end. He moved to this county many years ago and has resided here right along. He was a member of Jason D. Ferguson Post and stood high in the community. The last rites will be held Sunday at 10 o'clock a. m., at the home of his son, Rev. Sanford officiating and the remains will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery in Richland township beside his wife and two daughters who were called some years ago.
