From Story County Watchman September 22, 1899

DIED--At her residence in Nevada the 17th of September, Mrs. Mary Spencer, wife of Isaac H. Spencer, aged 79 years, 2 months and 11 days. The maiden name of Mrs. Spencer was Clark and she was born in Licking county, Ohio, and married at Lockwin, Ohio, January 1, 1837, to Mr. Spencer who survives her at the age of 84 years. The family came to Iowa in 1865 and settled in Story county and resided hereever since. Their descendants are 12 children, 56 grand children and 29 great grand children, 97 in number of whom 78 survive. She was a woman of sterling character and strong opinions upon questions of temperance and morality, and a devoted member of the Methodist church and her family were brought up in that view of matters and are worthy men and women. The last rites were conducted at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. F. Brown and the wife and mother was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery to await the last call.
