OBITUARY--Julia M. Barnes was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, Feb. 17, 1837. She came to Iowa in 1859 and was married to Lewis T. Williams July 23, 1867. There were seven children born of this marriage, five sons and two daughters. One son died in childhood. Mrs. Williams became a christian in early life, and was first a member of the M. E. church. About 20 years ago she united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church near this place. She lived a consistent christian life until her death which occurred at the home two miles east of town on Tuesday the 18th of March, 1899. She had been unwell for several days but was not thought to be dengerous. Mr. W. was preparing to come to town and went into her bedroom to speak with her before leaving when it was discovered she was sinking-- She expired in her husbands arms. Dr. Hostetter gave it as his opinion that death was caused by the rupture of a blood vessel. The funeral was held in Pres. church here on Thursday afternoon. Rev. Innes read the scriptures, Rev. Read of Osterdock, Iowa, offered prayer, Rev. Ferguson of Maxwell, preached the sermon from John 14:2, and Rev. Henderson closed the services with some remarks and prayer. The remains were then laid to rest in our cemetery. A good woman had been taken from us and her death will be deeply felt. The sympathies of the community are with the bereaved family in their great sorrow.
