From Story County Watchman June 10, 1898

Maude Luella Balliett was born in Boone county, Iowa, March 12, 1879 and died at the home of her parents in this city, Sunday, June 5. Deceased was a member of the Methodist church, and also an active member of the Epworth League and Good Templar Societies. During the residence of some four years deceased had made a large circle of warm intimate friends, to whom her untimely death was a severe shock. The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon under the directions of the Epworth League and good Templar societies, Rev. L. C. Clark preaching an impressive sermon. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful expressions of the deep regard with which deceased was held by her many friends. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery where the final rites were performed in accordance with the customs of the Good Templars Lodge. The music for the occasion wat furnished by Profs. Locke and Ferguson and Misses Flora Wonser and Emma Richards. Many friends and relatives from abroad were present to pay the last tributes of respect to one who they loved and esteemed.--Tama News, Thursday, June 9th.

Miss Balliett was a cousin of Mrs. F. I. Banks, of this city, and a niece of Mrs. Thos. Pool and Mrs. Z. Burdick.
