From Story County Watchman December 31, 1897
On Monday E. C. Evans died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Bisbee in Ames, at the age of about 83 years. He was one of the early settlers in this county and for a number of years held the position of the county judge under the old form of government then in vogue. He was a prominent in the political and social life of that day and was highly esteemed by his many friends who will regret his departure even at the ripe old age.
