From Story County Watchman December 31, 1897
Frank Bruce Mullen was born in Carroll county, Indiana, July 28, 1853, and died of hemmorhage of the brain Dec. 23, 1897, aged 44 years, 4 months and 25 days. In October 1953 he came to Iowa with his parents and with the exception of about three years has spent his life in Story county and for the past few years has been a resident of Colo. He was married on March 25, 1881, to Miss Kate Halley, of Nevada, but who died about four years latter. One daughter Bertha together with his mother, brothers and sisters mourn his sudden death which came so unexpectedly to all. He gave bright evidence of conversion but in later years drifted away from God until of late he was brought to more serious reflection by the conversion of his daughter last October. We only hope he may have reached the fairer shores in safety. The famiy were to have held a family reunion on Dec. 24, the occasion of Mother Mullen's 81st birthday ans all but one member a sister were present some having been absent from the old home over 20 years. On this account the sudden death was the harder to bear although the presence of nearly all of the family was a comfort to each other and a strength also. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chas. Pickford assisted by Rev. A. T. Wilkins and Rev. Baker of the M. E. church. Interment was made in Summit cemetery under the conduct of Logan Camp No. 1591 Modern Woodman of America of which society he was a member.
Resolutions of respect and condolence from Logan Camp No. 1591 M. W. A.
WHEREAS, Our Heavenly Father has reminded us of the uncertainty of life and the necessity of being prepared to meet the certainty of death by suddenly calling our esteemed neighbor Frank B. Mullen from this life of labor, in the prime of a useful life to an eternal home.
Whereas, This Camp has lost a charter member, an earnest worker and his mother a kind and dutiful son and his child an affectionate and loving father. Therefore be it resolved that we the members of Logan Camp No 1591 Modern Woodmen of America extend to the family our heart felt sympathy in their sad hour of bereavement and commend them to the All wise God for strength to bear the burden for he should remember that when the strength of man fails him there is an enxhaustible supply furnished him from above through the power of prayer. Be it farther resolved that our hall and charter be draped in morning for thirty days. That these resolutions be published in the local papers, that they be spread on the records of our Camp and a copy be presented to the bereaved family. Committee, J. I. Hostetter, Jas. McCoy, W. L. Ginter.
