From Story County Watchman September 3, 1897

The first of the week, while working with a threshing machine in Dickinson county, Wm. Hall was caught in the machinery and had an arm torn off. Medical assistance was called at once but in spite of all that could be done he died Thursday morning. His age is about twenty-five years and leaves a wife and children. He was born in this county and was a son of Alba Hall and as such was well known in this part of Iowa. He has a number of relatives in this part of the state, some of whom went there last night to attend the funeral.
