From Story County Watchman April 23, 1897

DIED.--Thursday night about 11 o'clock, Wm. Cook, aged about 79 years. Mr. Cook was a native of Pennsylvania where he lived many years. He moved to this place more than a generation ago and has for many years lived in the west part of the city. He was one of the men who build up cities and was strictly honorable and worthy to be classed as one of our best citizens. Up to this writing it is not known when the funeral will take place but possibly on Sabbath next. He leaves a wife, two sons and two daughters who are absent but are expected to-day. They are Jasper Cook of Chicago, Ed Cook of Des Moines, Mrs. Bland and Mrs. W. Bates.
