MRS. I. L. SMITH
Mrs. Harriet Smith, widow of the late Capt. I. L. Smith, died Monday evening at the home in Kansas City of her son Chas. E. Smith. The body will arrive on the Rock Island train Thursday morning and will be taken to the cemetery, in charge of the Women's Relief Corps. Mrs. Smith was something like eighty years of age and was a most esteemed resident of Nevada for very many years. Further notice of her life will be given later.

MRS. I. L. SMITH
Harriet King Smith was born in Somerset county, Pa. Where the families of her parents were old settlers Sept. 1, 1839. There she was married Sept. 9, 1857 to I. L. Smith and hey continued to live there until the war. Then, in 1865, they moved to McLean county, Ill., afterward in 1869 they came to Iowa locating in Ames. In 1877 the family moved to Nevada which was still their home when Captain Smith died at Kansas City, October 19, 1908. Five sons had been born to Mr. and Mrs. Smith all of whom had grown to manhood and three of whom survive their parents. They are M. K. Smith of Ames, deceased Charles E. of Kansas City, Allen R. deceased, William L. and John Henry of Kansas City. there are also seven grand shildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith continued to live in Nevada after her husband's death until 1910 when the home was closed and she went to live with her son C. E. in Kansas City. For two months she had been not quite well and was seriously ill for about 10 days. She died on Tuesday May 16, 1916 at 11 a. m. aged 76 years, 8 months and 15 days. She was a member of the Baptist church, had many warm friends in the several localities where her home had been and was greatly esteemed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the C. E. Smith home in Kansas City on Wednesday at four p. m. by Dr. Turk of Westminister Congregational church, assisted by Dr. A. B. Shrader of Kansas City Kansas formerly pastor of the Lutheran church at Nevada. Interment was in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery. The funeral party arrived at 8:30 Thursday morning and went directly to the cemetery. Rev. W. P. Payne made brief introductory remarks with scripture and invocation and the Women's Relief Corps followed with the burial services of the order. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Smith, William L. and John H. Smith, Mrs. M. K. Smith of Ames were here for the burial.
