MRS. WILLIAM GATES
Mrs. William Gates, well known to all the older residents of Nevada, died at her home on Saturday evening of heart failure. She had been feeling very well that day, had visited happily with a neighbor late in the afternoon. Late in the evening she complained of a difficulty in breathing. Her sons were both with her and soon became alarmed and called a doctor, but the end came very quickly.
Mrs. Gates was born Agnes Malloy in Scotland, November 1, 1843. In her girlhood she came with her parents to Canada where she was married at Hamilton to William Gates, March 3, 1864, and they came to Iowa in 1866. The eldest child Janette died before she was quite a year and a half old. The three who survive her are William F. and Frederick of Nevada and Mrs. Mabel Wadsworth of Longmont, Colorado who arrived Monday noon. A brother of Mrs. Gates is still livinag in Canada and whe was planning a visit to him this season with one of her sons. Mrs. Gates has seen fifty years of changes and development and side by side with her husband who passed away September 7, 1914 she had done her part. Devoted to her home and family she also had a large circle of friends, and her kindly interest extended far beyond those whom she personally knew. Her passing away is regretted by many.
The funeral took place fromt he home at ten-thirty this forenoon Rev. E. C. McDade officiating. She was laid to rest in the family lot beside her husband.
