From Story County Watchman May 31, 1895

Roland Record: ....Just as we were going to press news reached us one of the saddest accidents that has startled our community for years, and on hastening to the scene of the accident, found that Nora, a three-year-old daughter of L. A. Britson had been found at the bottom of the dump bin of the Stole elevator, dead. A great deal of grain had been coming in and the child had probably wandered from her home, near the elevator, and while playing near the chute fell down the opening and into the oats and was smothered to death. The failure of the oats to fill the cups resulted in an examination of the machinery by the workman, and the finding of the dead body of the child by E. R. Eide. No marks were on the body with the exception of a few on the lower limbs, probably caused by coming in contact with the running elevator cups. Mr. Stole was through the building but a short time before and saw no children playing near and apparently nothing wrong. This is indeed a sad and terrible blow, shocking the entire community and almost prostrating the parents with grief....
