From Story County Watchman May 25, 1894

Some weeks ago we gave an account of the death of our old comrade of Co. B 2nd Iowa Cavalry, J. M. Tanner, by the blowing up of a stationary engine at Kelly, and that his wife had been taken to the Insane Asylum at Mt. Pleasant as the result of the shock. This week word has reached us that Mrs. Tanner had just died there and that the remains would be returned to Kelly for interment. To the old veteran such an ending of a comrade who was in the same regiment in enough to make one sad, and we believe we can safely say that there is not a person who was in the old second but who will extend to the surviving members of the family their sincere regrets for these occurances, and ending.
