OBITUARY.--Mrs. Maria Christiana Ewald, the oldest female resident of this city, passed peacefully away on Sunday last at 1:30 o'clock, having reached the good old age of 82 years 5 months, 14 days. Mrs. Ewald was born in Leeheim, Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, Aug. 21st, 1810. The family emigrated to America in the spring of 1857, settling at first in Altoona, Pa. While there her husband* died leaving her a widow with five children. In 1869 she moved to Colo, this county, where they remained until 1876, since which time the family have been residents of Nevada.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Maria Christiana Schaffner was married to Johann Wendel Ewald. In the 1860 Logan Twp., Blair Co., Pa. census (near Altoona), they are listed as Wendel and Christianna Ewalt and have children: Annie, Christianna, Margaret, Peter and Conrad all born in Darmstadt.
