From Story County Watchman February 17, 1893

J. Presley Pool died at his residence in this city on Tuesday at the advanced age of 80 years. He was born in Ohio and came to Iowa some 35 years since, where he has since made his home, the most of the time being upon a farm near Johnsons' Grove. He was a man who stood well in the community, and was a just and upright citizen. The funeral was held from his residence and the Nevava Lodge of Masons turned out in large numbers to show their esteem of him as a citizen and member. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his loss, who look forward to the time in which they shall meet in the near future where parting shall be no more. Rev. Danner preached the sermon.

IN MEMORIAM.--On February 16th, 1893, Nevada Lodge No. 99, buried the aged Brother, John Pressly Poole, according to the rites of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, The Lodge adopted the following Memorial of Respect, as reported by the committee:

As Free Masons we meet to bear to their rest the remains of our brother John Pressly Pool. For a quarter of a century he has modestly and faithfully borne his part and discharged the duties that belong to a true and faithful brother among us. In the sere and yellow leaf, at four score years, he has been gathered as a shock of corn that is ripe. While we bow in submission to the will of the G. A. O. T. U., we tender to the bereaved family our sincere sympathy in what to them and to us is an hour of solemnity and sadness. It is the decree of nature that the time shall come to all that those who look out of the windows shall be darkened. This has come to our brother, and the mourners go about the streets. But the memory of a well spent life is with us, and this we cherish in faithful breasts.

To the family of our brother, in which he was a loving husband and kind and affectionate parent, we offer the reflection that our loss is his gain; and that we do not mourn as those who have no hope. The faithful citizen, friend, relative and Brother has entered upon immortality and we but wait the summons to join the innumerable throng. May he rest in peace.
