From Story County Watchman February 19, 1892

DIED--Mrs. Sophia Blackman died at her home in Nevada Sunday morning last and her funeral services were conducted by Rev. Danner at the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon. Sophia Carley was born in England April 3, 1824; came to America and settled in New York state when 13 years old, where she married John Blackman Jan. 15th, 1851. She emigrated to Benton county, Ia., in 1862, and from there to Story county in 1871. Her husband died in Nevada, Iowa Sept. 3d, 1879, since which time Mrs. Blackman has lived in Nevada near some of her relatives. After a lingering illness of more than a year she departed this life in peace on the morning of the 14th, 1892. She was united with the M. E. Church about 25 years previous to her death but had not put her membership into the church in Nevada. She leaves three daughters--Mrs. Ella Jayne, of Marion, Ia., Mrs. Julia Stevens, of Rhodes, Ia., and Mrs. Jennie Allen of Nevada, who with many other relatives and friends feel deeply her loss.
