From Story County Watchman March 28, 1890

Maxwell.

Death came very suddenly and unexpectedly to our town last week. On Thursday morning, March 20th the people were startled by the announcement that Miss Elal Fread, sister of B. Fread, esq., had died about 4 o'clock. She had been unwell for several weeks past, but had so far recovered that she was theought to be entirely out of danger. On Wednesday she seemed better all day and was engaged in sewing. However in the evening she complained of weariness, and some dizziness in her head and strted up stairs to her room. About the time she reached the top of the stairway she fell striking heavily at the foot of the steps. She was found to be in an unconscious state and could not be fully restored. A physcian was called an everything possible done, but to no avail. She sank very rapidly in the afer part of the night, and expired about 4 a. m. She was a young lady just past twenty years of age and had been in Maxwell nearly two years and in that time had made many friends. The funeral took place on Saturday and was largely attended. Rev. Ferguson conducted the services assisted by the other ministers present. She was member of the C. P. Church and the secretary of the Sabbath school, and will be very much missed.
