OBITUARY.--Arthur J. Hempstead, whos death was noted int he Herald of Tuesday, was born in Nevada, Iowa, Jan. 21st, '66. The funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, by Rev. J. A. Ward, assisted by Rev. Wilson Denney. Again the Silent Reaper has taken from among us a bright a vigorous young life. "Dick," as he was commonly called, had been empolyed by the C. & N. W. R. R. Co. for the past three years as fireman, and it is safe to say that no more faithful or exemplary young man could be found in the long list of noble and brave hearted railroad men. His standing among them was evidenced by the number who followed the remains to the grave a beautiful spot in Springdale cemetery. The three Brotherhoods, Locomotive Engineers, Firemen, and Brakemen, attended in bodies, and all sent beautiful floral offerings.

Left motherless at an early age, he was reared by his oldest sister, Mrs. Reed, and to her generous care the wise counsels he gave loving obedience. He was a member of the M. E. church, and of the Society of Christian Endeavor.

The above is from the Clinton, Iowa Daily Herald of June 27th and is the starting point of the small pox scare in this place, as the parties came from that city here on a visit to relatives not knowing that the deceased had that disease. What kind of Physicians have they in Clinton?
