David S. Smith, whom we referred to as dangerously ill a few days since died at the home of his mother, Mrs. J. Horner*, Tuesday aged 29 years. He had been a resident of this place about one year and was an industrious and trustworthy young man.

From Story County Watchman May 3, 1889

DIED.--In basement of the courthouse April 23d, 1889, of strangulated hernia, David S. Smith, son of Nathaniel and Ruth Smith*, aged 29 years and 21 days. His birthplace was Hicksville, Ohio.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: David Smith was the son of Nathaniel and Ruth (Spurrier) Smith. Ruth married secondly Jacob Horner.
