From Story County Watchman March 22, 1889

Ex President Welch of the Iowa Agricultural College died at Pasadena, California, on Wednesday of last week and the body reached Ames Wednesday morning and was taken direct to the College where it will remain in state until the funeral takes place to-day. He was at one time a Senator from Florida and for a number of years President of the College.

Prof. Wynn, of Atchison, Kansas, will meet the body of Dr. Welsh at Kansas City and Prof. Stalker and Dr. Fairchild and lady will meet it at Council Bluffs and accompany it to its final resting place. Prof. Wynn will deliver the funeral sermon at the College Chapel. The body is to be buried in the College Cemetery. School will be closed on that day.
