From Story County Watchman May 4, 1888

DIED.--At his late residence in Grant Township four miles southwest of Nevada, April 25, 1888, of inflamatory rheumatism, with typhoid fever, George Whitaker in 24th year of his age. He was the son of Thomas and Harriet Whitaker, and was born and brought up in Story county. No young man was more respected than he. All who knew him held him in the highest esteem. Jan. 20, 1887, he was married to Laura Golden, who, with many others now laments his early death. He and his wife were worthy members of the Evangelical Association Church at Iowa Centre. His illness was long and severe, lasting near ten week, and he suffered much yet bore it with great patience. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. A. Eerguson and the remains intrred in the Mullin Cemetery, a large concourse of people being present. Peace to his ashes.
