From Story County Watchman April 29, 1887

James Bales died at his home in Maxwell, April 20th, and was buried on Thursday, the funeral being conducted by Rev. Ferguson, of this place. Mr. B. was born in Hendricks County, Ind., but had been a citizen of Story county for more than 30 years. His wife was Lorisa* John. He leaves her, a son and a daughter to mourn his loss. He was much respected by all who knew him.

*SUBMITTERS NOTE: From every census and record I have found, including her marriage record, this should be "Louisa" not "Lorisa."
