DIED.--Daniel Franklin Whipple, after an illness of only four days, died at 11:20 on Sunday night, at his residence near the county hospital. Mr. Whipple, although not confined to his house, had been complaining of being unwell for about two weeks prior to his death, the trouble being what might be termed Bright's disease of the kidneys. About the middle of the past week he was taken down with an attack of the pneumonia, and between the two diseases he was soon obliged to succomb.
He remained conscious up to the very last, and talked calmly and resignedly of his approaching dissolulion to those around him. He spoke but a short time before his death of his two absent daughters, Mrs. Dana of Nevada, Ia., and Miss Lulu Whipple, and said he would like to life until they arrived, but added shortly after he had referred to them: "Oh, well; it won't be long before I shall meet them again." He also spoke frequently of the Grand Army, of which he was a member, and to which he was deeply attached.
His wish was that the John F. Reynolds post should attend his funeral, which he requested might be held at the First Baptist church.
He was born June 1, 1836, in Chautaugua county, N. Y. He was married at Marion, Iowa, June 1, 1858 to Irene A. Boynton, whose death occured January 2 of the present year. He served in the war of the rebellion, being a member of Company C., of the Thirty-first Iowa infantry, of which regiment he was quartermaster sergeant.--[Cheyenne Sun.
