six month.

Sarah A. Mathews, was born near Iowa Center, Story county, Iowa, April 30, 1871. Early in life she revealed a love for and took an active part in Sunday school work. In 1890 she consecrated her life to Jesus and united with the Evangelical church in Iowa Center, of which she was a member until her decease. On January 8, 1891, she was married to George Chaffin. As a result of this union four children, all boys were given to bless and brighten the home. In the spring of 1899, the family moved to Dickinson county, where they have since resided. For the past few months, Mrs. Chaffin has suffered from failing health; two weeks ago pneumonia set in and terminated her earthly career, November 1, 1901, at the age of thirty years and six months.
Her husband, four sons, father, three sisters and two brothers survive her. Her beautiful life, reflected in the duties of a loving wife, devoted mother and consistent follower of the lowly Nazarenne, will long be remembered by all who had the privilege knowing her. The funeral services were held in the Congretational church on Sabbath morning, conducted ty the Pastor Rev. W. G. Johnson. That which was mortal was placed in its last resting place in Okoboji cemetery, the spirit having returned to God who gave it.

Farewell, beloved and cherished friend.
Each pleasant by-gone hour
Still lingers near me as of old.
With true and changless power.

Thy faith and hope, thy patient trust,
Thy words of genter cheer
Float o'er my spirit strangly still,
And brings thee ever near.
