From Story County Watchman November 19, 1880

With a feeling of sadness and sympathy that can not be expressed with the pen, we note the death of Mrs. N. A. Ufford. She has lingered for some time with the conqueror of the world--Death and struggled a long period of vital suffering. But death gives no proferments even to the aged mother. The sunny rose of home, with all its parental holiness and etherial emissions of almost earthly paradise to the surrounding inmates of the life bound brother, sister and father in one sad sorrowful moment is blighted and changed into the cold, unwelcome narrow walls and shot out from the once happy home, forever, with the portals of the tomb. Oh! it seems as though we cant give them up, But we yield to the will of Him who order and arranges all things with an unerring hand. And remember that such bereavements do sometimes awaken latent virtues and arouse that slumbering save of good news, from its straved and shriveled condition to a state of apprehended responsibility, and perhaps e'er ages roll away we will be happier than we would be if the family tie had not been broken while we were in the condition to be potent. There is one thought that can comfort the lingering and loving members of the bereft family and that is that star whien saves us all from despondency. The Star of hope or the thought that we shall all be united in the future where earthly afflictions are no more.
