From Story County Watchman October 15, 1880

DIED--Wm. Day, at his residence two miles northeast of Nevada, last Sunday in the seventy-seventh year of his age. He was a native of Lincolnshire, England, and came to America in 1848. He first settled in Rochester, New York, from which place he moved to Marietta, Ohio, thence to Albany, Ill., and finally to Story county, Iowa, where he resided until the day of his death.

He leaves a large family to mourn his loss. He gave evidence in his closing hours of having found pardon and peace through the sacrificial death of Christ. This preparation he earnestly sought. After appropriate services at the Methodist Church, conducted by the pastor, he was, on Monday afternoon laid to rest to await the morning of the resurrection.

"Oh freed from fetters of this lonesome prison
How I shall greet the in that day of days,
When he who died, yea rather who is risen,
Shall these frail frames from dust and darkness raise."
