It is sad to chronicle the death of one of our oldest settlers and citizens. Uncle Billy Alderman fell dead in the street on Friday last. The machinery that nature supplied for the maintenance of vitality had run its race, and his death seems to have been natural.

(Also, on the same page:)

W. V. Alderman, of Indian Creek township, dropped dead upon the streets at Iowa Center, on Saturday last. He had been ailing for nearly a week and had gone to that place for medicine, when he was stricken by the stroke that ended his earthly career, which is supposed to have been apoplexy. He was about seventy-five years of age and leaves a grown up family.
