W. A. Devendorf

Wm. A. Devendorf, long a druggist at Story City and well and favorably known in the county, whose death occured in Des Moines on the 10th inst., was born in Wisconsin, September 14, 1857, but removed as a child to a farm near Eldora and spent much of his life in Hardin county. His business life, however, was very largely in Story county at Story City, where he gained a wide acquaintance and innumerable friends. He was married September 3, 1890 to Mrs. Lou Valentine Reynolds, and his wife and two boys, Leo and Edwin, survive him. The Union Star says of him:

"Mr. Devenforf was a man of kindly nature, being of a jovial diposition his friends were numerous, which was exemplified by the Knights of Pythias Lodge of Story City, Union and Eldora, who participated at the funeral services. Mr. Devendorf followed his profession in Union, Ft. Madison, Lehigh and Webster City, thereafter establishing a business in Story City, being in business there for 16 years. He was a very successful business man and had excellent judgment in financial affairs his advice having been sought by many friends. He was ready and willing at all time to assist ones in distress or need and being anxious that his children should have educational advantages, in March 1909 he moved to Des Moines, where Leo the elder is in college and Edwin the high school. Mrs. Devendorf and family have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
