Mildred Mae Paulson was born March 27, 1919, in the farm home of her parents, Otto and Esther (Schricker) Paulson, in Richland County, Wis. She was the second child with five sisters and one brother. She was baptized July 13, 1919, and confirmed Sept. 3, 1933, at Five Points Lutheran Church in rural Richland Center, Wis. At the age of 16, she went to Chicago to work. After a few years, she moved to Canton, S.D., and graduated from Augustana Academy. Her next goal was to get into parish work. She attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis and graduated from Seattle School in 1950. For the three following years, she was a secretary at Seattle School. She married Ernest Thompson at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle, Wash., on June 5, 1953. They moved to Tacoma, Wash., and she was church secretary at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Tacoma during the school year while Ernest completed college studies at Pacific Lutheran College. That summer, they moved to St. Paul, Minn., for Lutheran Seminary. She became a homemaker and did secretary work for Ernie and as needed throughout his ministry for 50 years. As a homemaker, she enjoyed entertaining, baking bread, cookies and pies. She sewed much for herself, and especially enjoyed making quilts for LWR. With five sons there were many school and 4-H activities for parents to attend. Mildred will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest, of Mason City; five sons, Nathan (Julie) Thompson, of Anchorage, Alaska, Mark (Diane) Thompson, of St. Michael, Alaska, Daniel Thompson (Barb), of Portland, Ore., Jonathan (Jo) Thompson, of Grays River, Wash., and Dr. Steven Thompson, of San Francisco; eight grandchildren, Rosalyn, Rachel, Nathan, Silas, Sidney, Paul, Benjamin (Sara), and Aaron; three sisters, Lillian Rambo, of Mauston, Wis., Evelyn Divorak, of Richland Center, Wis., and Opal (Arthur) Thingvold, of Blue River, Wis.; and one brother, Melvin Paulson, of Richland Center, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Dorothea and Violet.
