Ronald Olson, 67, of Story City, died on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in Roland. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday August 23, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. Burial was at the Roland Cemetery. On-line condolences may be sent to: www.boekefuneralhomes.com
Ronald Irvin Olson was born March 23, 1943 in Ames, Iowa to Lester T. and Esther (Hovland) Olson. He was a lifelong resident of Story County growing up and living most of his life in his grandparents and parents neighborhood south of Roland.
Ron was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church, Roland. Ron joined the U. S. Navy Reserves before graduating from Roland High School in 1961. Upon graduation he went into active duty until 1963 and served on the U.S.S. Greenwich Bay as a radarman stationed in Norfolk Virginia. After active duty he worked at Graphic Forms in Nevada. In 1970, Ron started farming southwest of Mc Callsburg for thirteen years. He worked for Record Printing, Story City and retired from the Iowa DOT in July, 2005 after twenty years.
Ron has been an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, Radcliffe, Iowa. He has been an active member of the Gideons International, since 1983. He loved and enjoyed family, Bible Study, horses, traveling, just being outdoors and watching the sun set behind the barn. Ron's favorite scripture was Psalm 119:11-12.
Ron married Marcene (Marcy) Sandvick on November 5, 1966 in Des Moines. They lived two miles east and two south of Roland, until 1970 when they moved southwest of Mc Callsburg to farm. Then they moved to their present home in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Marcy of Story City; five children, Anna Olson of Pilot Mound, Ruth Munn, Story City, Kathryn (Todd) Bleeker, Maple Grove, Minnesota, Fred (Jennifer) Olson, Vail, Iowa, Christie (Dan) Cody, Mesa, Arizona; 18 grandchildren, Grace Riccio, Michael P. Riccio, Ashley Hansen, Thomas Munn, Erika Munn, Kristian Munn, Landis Bleeker, Lake Bleeker, Lissa Bleeker, Logan Bleeker, Lawson Bleeker, Lexa Bleeker, Jennifer Olson, Jacob Olson, Sadie Olson, Christopher Cody, Savanna Cody; two step-granddaughters and four great-grandchildren, Amanda Hansen, Michelle Hansen, Harlie Thomas and Colton Thomas; two brothers, James (Judy) Olson, Story City, and Dennis (Colleen) Olson, Story City.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Landen J. Bleeker.
