THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, September 25, 2010.

Elizabeth Jean Perry, 91, of Nevada, died on Friday, Sept. 24, at the Story County Senior Care. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, with Pastor Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial of the cremains will take place in Tampa, Fla., at a later date.

Jean was born Dec. 14, 1918, in Hart, Mich., to Eli F. and Reforde E. (Gillard) Adams. She grew up in Wayne, Mich., where she graduated from high school in 1936.

On Aug. 23, 1942, Jean married Robert Perry before he was shipped to India for three years. In 1946 they had a son, Bruce, and in 1948 they had a daughter, Ruth.

Jean and Bob lived in Michigan until 1959, when they moved to Tampa, Fla. They had 13 good years in the South until Bob died of a sudden heart attack, leaving Jean a widow.

In 1976, she moved to Nevada to be close to her daughter and her family.

Her greatest joy was to watch her grandchildren grow and become the people they are now, choosing good life partners and having good lives. Jean watched over them as children and was a big part in all of their lives. And when the next generation came along, she loved them equally.

Jean will be greatly missed by her son, Bruce (Linda) Perry, of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; a daughter, Ruth (Terry) Soseman, of Nevada; her grandchildren, Jeff (Kathy) Soseman, Steve (Silvia) Soseman, Charlotte (Carl) Arends and Scott Perry; her Iowa great-grandkids, Ashley and Whitney Arends and Isabella and Lucas Soseman. She also has four great-grandchildren in the South and one great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Esther Durant and a sister-in-law, Berniece Adams, both of Michigan, and their families.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob on Oct. 2, 1972, a brother, Hyle Adams, and a brother-in-law, Jim Durant.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St. in Nevada.

Memorials may be given in Jean’s name to Iowa Hospice or Story County Senior Care.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with the care of Jean and her family.
