THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, September 10, 2010.

Willis Verne “Chuck” Oostenbrug, 88, passed away on Sept. 3, 2010, in Sheldon. Chuck was born to Gerrit and Jennie Oostenbrug, on Oct. 7, 1921, in Hull. He lived his childhood on several farms in the Archer and Primghar areas.

On Jan. 14, 1944, he married Mary Hannah McGinty. Chuck fought in Germany, during World War II. After the war, Chuck and Mary settled in Sanborn, where they owned and operated Chuck’s IGA Grocery store for 33 years.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Mary, of Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon; daughters Pam Raymond, of Adel; and Mary Beth Oostenbrug (Larry Cormicle), of Ames; son Terry Oostenbrug, of Seattle; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three sisters and a brother. He was preceded in death by his daughter Glenda, his grandson Tim, his parents, and 7 siblings.

His funeral was on Monday, Sept. 6, at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, in Sanborn. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn.
