Larry "Swede" Nystrom, 74, of Springfield/Ozark, Missouri, formerly of Story City, passed away on Sunday July 18, 2010 at his home in Springfield, Missouri. A visitation was held Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the Barnes Family Funeral Home in Ozark, Missouri. Per his request, cremation rites were accorded. His ashes were scattered in Table Rock Lake.
Swede was born April 22, 1936 in Boone, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Gretchen (Good) Nystrom. He was formerly married to Barbara Ann Dyvik of Story City. He married Carol Riegel on August 1, 1981.
Larry started his career working for the Iowa Highway Commission in Ames and then was a car salesman at Gookin Ford in Story City prior to his moving to Missouri. He made his home in Ozark, Missouri for several years before moving to Springfield. He had a gift to gab and truly loved everyone he met. He loved nature and being outdoors. His hobbies included fishing, boating and just spending time on Table Rock Lake with family and friends. He also was a very talented glass blower and an excellent woodworker. Larry also served in the Army where he attended boot camp with Elvis Presley.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Carol, Springfield; daughters: Dana and DeAnne Nystrom, Jennifer and Stephanie Mertz; his mother, Gretchen, Iowa, sister, Kay Ann Nystrom, Des Moines, nieces, nephews and many good friends. His father preceded him in death. He forever touched our hearts and will be greatly missed! "Swede You Later Larry!"
