FUNERAL SERVICES FOR CHARLES JONES HELD HERE SUNDAY
(The Wayne (Nebraska) Herald, August 17, 1961)Funeral services for Charles Jones, 81, Wayne [Nebraska], were held Sunday afternoon at Hiscox Funeral Home. Mr. Jones died Thursday morning at his home following a lengthy illness. Merlin Wright, Wakefield, officiated at the rites.
Pallbearers were Gary Herbolsheimer, Wakefield; James Leadom, Martinsburg; Gerald and Cecil Jones (1), Ames, Ia., Roy Benscoter (2), Omaha, and Raymond Thornburg, Wayne. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
Charles Jones, son of Mary Eliza Whitaker Jones and Alfred Jones, was born June 3, 1880 in Indian Creek Township, Story county, Ia. When he was 17 he went to California where he spent eight years. He spent two years in Nevada, a year in St. Louis and a year in Kansas City, Mo., before returning to Cambridge, Ia. He moved to Homer in 1938. (3)
Dec. 4, 1939 he married Beulah Marie Oliva(4) at North Platte.(5) In 1941 the family moved to Winnebago and in 1946 they came to Wayne.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant brother, Ward(6), and three sisters, Mrs. Gloe Vilneve (7), Mrs. Carrie Huntley(8) and Mrs. Hattie Musgrave(9, 10). Survivors include his widow; three daughters, Sandra(11), Wayne, Mrs. Elowise Benscoter(12), Omaha, and Mrs. Madeline Adkins(13), Champaign, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Grace Ehrenreich(14), Chicago; two brothers, Harry Jones, Shingle Springs, Calif., and Richard Jones(15), Elverta, Calif.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.(16)

1. Gerald and Cecil Jones were sons of Charles’ brother Harry Jones.
2. Roy Benscoter was Charles’ son-in-law, husband of Elowise Jones.
3. Charles also lived in Omaha, Nebraska prior to 1920, and in the Homer, Nebraska, area in 1935
4. Beulah was the daughter of Frank and Bozena (Kuklis) Oliva, originally from Custer County, Nebraska
5. He had previously been married to Ruth I. Evans in Kansas City, Kansas May 3, 1908, and to Nellie McAllister Shephard somewhere near Lyons, Nebraska, August 9, 1915.
6. An infant sister Lillian, also preceded him in death.
7. Glo (whose full name may have been Evelyn Glo or Evelyn Gloria) was married to John Villeneuve
8. Caroline/Carrie Jones was married to Clinton Hundley
9. Hattie Jones was married to a distant Ohio relative, Tom Musgrave and moved to Ohio
10. Charles was also preceded in death by infant daughters Ethel Glo Jones (born to Nellie Jones) on Dec 5, 1918 in Omaha, and Delores Annabella Jones (born to Lillian Wagner) on October 1, 1937 to Lillian (Wagner) Humphrey.
11. Sandra Jones (daughter of Beulah Oliva Jones) married LeRoy Breitkreutz and lived in Wayne and Crete, Nebraska
12. Elowise Jones (daughter of Nellie McAllister Shephard Jones) was married to Fay Colbenson and Roy Benscoter and lived in Omaha, Nebraska, and Kansas City.
13. Madeline Jones Ehrenreich (daughter of Nellie McAllister Shephard Jones) was married to Jack Baron and Robert Adkins, and lived in Champaign, Illinois
14. Allie/Grace Jones married Frank Ehrenreich and raised her niece Madeline Jones Ehrenreich
15. Richard Adare Jones was known as "Dare" when he was young.
16. Charles Jones was also survived by a son, Charles Raymond Jones Humphrey, born 1935 to Lillian (Wagner) Humphrey.
