THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, August 28, 2010.

Irving C. Wierson, 96, of Story City, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Story City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. A memorial has been established in his name. Soderstrum Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Irv was born Aug. 7, 1914, near Story City to Martin and Helen (Larson) Wierson. He graduated from Story City High School in 1932. In March of 1941, he entered the Army and served during WW II in the Italian Campaign. He married Margaret West on June 19, 1943. After 15 years of marriage, she succumbed to MS.

Irv became a carpenter after returning to Story City and built his house at 853 Lafayette. In 1951 and 1952, he worked for Larson-Peterson Furniture and Floor Covering. He purchased the furniture store in 1953 renaming it Wierson Furniture while assisting Larson-Peterson funeral home. On Oct. 1, 1959 Irving married Sarah Askelson Phillips. Later, he adopted her four children, Michael, James, Marilyn and Steven.

He retired in 1969 and spent time woodworking, enjoying family and friends while traveling, fishing, and golfing.

Irv is survived and will be greatly missed by sons, Michael (Janev) Phillips, James (Connie) Phillips, Steven (Wilda) Phillips; and daughter, Marilyn (Joseph) Emond; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Irv considered Gene and Edith Demaray, Curtis and Grace Owenson, and Jim and Joyce Thorson as his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters; wives, Margaret and Sarah, and grandson, Kent.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. A memorial has been established in his name. Soderstrum Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
